Semiconductor - ProMOS Investing Big in China
June 01, 2004
Taiwanese semiconductor maker ProMOS Technologies has stated it will invest nearly US$900 million in building a semiconductor plant in China. Equipment to produce eight-inch wafers will be moved from a plant currently in Taiwan. ProMOS is set to produce 12 inch wafers at another new plant in Taiwan in the second half of 2005; it will be Taiwan's fifth 12-inch-wafer plant.

Production at the new plant will increase by 50% to 60,000 wafers a month from the previously planned 40,000 a month. ProMOS anticipates that first installment of investment in the China plant to begin in the fourth quarter of 2004. Approval has not yet been granted by the Taiwanese government.
